There is a big news for IIT JEE aspirants. The number of attempts for IIT-JEE have been increased. Starting this year, the number of attempts for the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) has been increased from two to three. Candidates can now attempt JEE Advanced up to three times over three consecutive years, according to the new guidelines. Previously, candidates were limited to two attempts in two consecutive years. Age Limit: Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, there is a five-year relaxation, allowing those born on or after October 1, 1995, to be eligible.

JEE Main 2025 Eligibility

Other eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 remain unchanged. Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the BE/BTech paper (Paper I) of JEE Main 2025. However, due to potential tied scores, the final count of eligible candidates may slightly exceed 2.5 lakh.

The category-wise percentages for shortlisting are as follows: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 40.5% OPEN for all. A 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates within each category.

OCI/PIO Eligibility: Following a Supreme Court ruling on February 3, 2023, OCI/PIO candidates with an OCI/PIO card issued before March 4, 2021, are considered Indian nationals for IIT seat allocation. However, they are not eligible for category reservations, except for OPEN-PwD.

JEE Main 2025 Eligibility: Class 12 Appearance

Candidates must have first appeared in their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.

Candidates who first appeared in Class 12 in 2022 or earlier are not eligible, regardless of the subjects taken. An exception is made if the candidate’s examination board declared results for the 2021-22 academic year on or after September 21, 2022. In that case, candidates who appeared in 2022 are eligible, provided they meet all other criteria. However, if the board released results before this date and a candidate’s results were withheld, they are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2025.

IIT Admission History

Candidates who have been admitted to an IIT under any program listed in the 2024 JoSAA Business Rules or earlier are ineligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2025. This restriction applies even if they did not continue the program or only accepted an IIT seat through online or physical reporting. Candidates whose IIT admission was later canceled are also ineligible.
