The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made significant changes to the application process for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (CSE Pre) 2024. These changes aim to make the process more meticulous and structured for candidates.

Important Dates and Vacancies

  • The official notification for the Civil Services Examination 2024 (CSE 2024) was released on February 14.
  • Candidates have until March 5, 2024, to submit their online applications.
  • There are a total of 1056 vacancies, with 40 reserved for candidates with disabilities.

Exam Schedule

  • The prelims exam is scheduled for May 26.
  • Candidates scoring above the cut-off marks will qualify for the main examination.
  • The main examination, which is descriptive, will begin on September 20 and last for five days.

Photograph Requirements

  • Candidates must upload a recent photograph not older than 10 days from the start of the application process (February 14).
  • The photograph must include the candidate’s name and the date it was taken.
  • The candidate’s face should occupy three-fourths of the space in the photograph.

Consistent Appearance

  • Candidates must maintain the appearance depicted in the uploaded photograph throughout the examination process.
  • This includes the preliminary exam, main exam, and interview/personality test.
  • For example, if a candidate uploads a photograph with a beard, they must maintain that look in all stages of the exam.
  • The same applies to features like spectacles or mustaches.

Technical Specifications

  • Scanned images of the passport-sized photograph and signature must be in .jpg format.
  • Each file should have a size between 20 KB and 300 KB.
