Delhi Police Introduces Merit-Based Exam for SHO Appointment 2025

In a major shift from the traditional seniority-based selection process, the Delhi Police has decided to introduce a merit-based examination for the appointment of Station House Officers (SHOs) for the first time. This new selection process aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and professionalism in the recruitment of SHOs.

According to media reports, the selection process will be implemented for 15 available positions in Cyber Police Stations. A total of 122 police inspectors have applied for these posts. The written exam is scheduled to take place on March 18, 2025, at the Delhi Police Academy, Wazirabad.

Why the New Selection Process?

Previously, SHO appointments in the Delhi Police were based on seniority and experience. However, this method often lacked a standardized evaluation process. By introducing a merit-based examination, the Delhi Police aims to ensure that the most qualified officers are selected based on legal knowledge, investigative skills, and decision-making abilities.
